Pat Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Songs About Manager Chris Wilder
The striker is now a member of the Championship side only seven months following starting insulting taunts aimed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has agreed to a deal with the Championship strugglers until January. His seven-year career at Elland Road was ended amicably this past summer.
One of Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds involved leading insulting chants about Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Now, the former England player will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to lift his beloved club out of the relegation zone.
Past Conflict Involving Bamford & the Manager
The pair had a past before Leeds moved up back to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager described the forward as a "muppet" back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation and Looking Ahead
All appears has been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement up front while Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his career.
The Wilder chant gained traction in April. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder stated at the time: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I have no problem whatsoever with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! However I valued and admired him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel too and we had a longer discussion with him and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we would give it and take it and that’s an integral part of the game across all levels, even on Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
Latest Career Challenges
Bamford made 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
